Trying to log into EVE tonight to see if the latest patch fixed things. After two patches were required (WTF!) I got the hanger again :(
In the meantime I have been trying Perpetuum since it promises to be closest to that old-fashioned EVE experience. I totally failed at first but now I am starting to get the hang of things and doing beginner missions. Looks like fun. It is seriously a blatent copy of EVE, but mecha instead of spaceships. Pretty fun.
I love the following video of some experienced EVE players trying PVP in Perpetuum for the first time. CCP should take notes... there is an obvious anti-blob mechanic:
